Anytime that you have a chance to engage in the
Dematha versus Gonzaga rivalry , you've got to do
it. So instead of the Rock Monday's , this week we
traveled to Beltsville , MD for Tuesday night action
with the WCAC championship re-match topping the day
off.
Although the game was close until half-time , the
deep Dematha team wore down Gonzaga and held Duke
bound Tyler Thornton to just 6pts on the night.
Dematha eventually pulled out an impressive 14
point win.
1. Quinn Cook Dematha Catholic - When
asked about his performance last night in a
convincing win against Rival Gonzaga College , Cook
replied "I'm Back". The 6'0" point guard who led the
USA 16&U team to a world championship just two weeks
ago , scored a game high 17pts and dished out 5
assts. Cook is the clear favorite to take over the
new #1 ranking in the Class of 2011.
2. Ben Hazel Good Counsel - Here is an
intriguing prospect in 6'4" swingman Hazel who
knocked down 20pts , and four long balls in a win
against Bullis. Hazel can get up , and shoot from
deep. With those two aspects combined with a near
4.0gpa Ben is a sure solid mid-major Division I
prospect. If Ben develops an off the dribble attack
, he could be floating in major waters.
3. Maalik Kone Friendship Collegiate -
Kone is continuing to have a tremendous summer
showing and last night was no exception. The 6'5" SG
scored 16pts in the 2nd half finishing with a game
high 19 in a win over Blake.
4.Kemme Osse Carroll - Kemme (16pts) is
clearly the leader on an Archbishop Carroll team who
took down Duval. Osse has spurted up to 6'2" and is
developing into a mid to major prospect in the
rising junior class of 2011.
5. Joseph Thompson High Point -Thompson
scored 11pts and grabbed 8 boards against an
undersized Sidwell Friends team.
