This time last season Terrence Ross was coming off
an impressive Oregon 5A State Championship run along with being named the
Oregon 5A State Player of The Year. This time last year Terrence Ross was
just a sophomore at Jefferson High School in Southeast Oregon.
It was on Talbott Road where the athletic , but reserved shooting guard spent
countless hours in his high school gym , and the hard work was paying off as
schools such as UCLA , California , Texas , Washington , Arizona State , Florida
, Indiana , Kansas and Maryland all made their bids for the 15 year old kid with
a bright basketball future.
Right now , if Terrence was in Oregon you would find him in a blue and white
Team Jones AAU uniform."I'm taking a break from AAU" noted the high rising guard
who finished with a team high 17pts this past weekend at the I-95 Elite
Challenge in Baltimore , MD.
Montrose Christian also took notice of the talented youngster and became so
impressed that the Rockville based private school offered Terrence an
opportunity to play his junior basketball with a prep program that has recently
developed such pro's as Linas Keiza and Kevin Durant , both of whom are high
impact players in the National Basketball Association.
After consulting with his mother Macine Ross , the two thought the decision
was a no-brainer. Montrose Christian was getting the likes of Terrence Ross
who's motivation was sparked by the possibility of furthering his education
while competing against a higher level of competition.
"It's so much more fun up here , there's more talent , more players and it's
just all-around better" spoke Ross of his transition to the hoops capital of the
world in the DC , MD and VA area.
"It's crazy you know , I never thought I would play on TV until I got to
college" but by the time Terrence is a senior in high school he will have played
on ESPN not once , not twice , but three seperate times.
Ross averaged 14.8ppg and 5.6rpg and committed to the University Of Maryland
on April 28, 2009 after leading national powerhouse Montrose to a 25-3 final
record.
Ross did so while playing alongside two top 25 senior recruits in Mouthtaou
Yarou and Isaiah Armwood who both will suit up for Villanova next year.
"I like to take notes on Joe Johnson" (Atlanta Hawks) , noted a confident
Ross who is considered one of the country's best outside shooters. "I mean he's
not as athletic as Kobe or Lebron , but I like him".
When asked , What can the Maryland Terrapin Fans expect to see out of
Terrence in 2010 , Ross simply replied excitement. And thus far Terrence Ross
has yet to be anything less.
