With both the Demtha
Stags and the KIMA High School boys basketball teams
getting wins respectively last night , the stage is
set for yet another Rock League Championship
tommorrow at 7pm , tickets are $5 at the door.
KIMA 48 McNamara 46 - This was a
wild one that wouldn't end until the final .3
seconds evaporated and KIMA took down Bishop
McNamara in a nail biting contest. Despite holding a
10 point lead with just under 8 minutes to play ,
KIMA would have to get a desperation floater to drop
from rising senior guard Jada Johnson giving them a
two point victory. Jonson's prayer shot stuck to the
back of the rim before dropping in , leaving just
1.4 seconds and a full court worth of distance to a
McNamara team that would later fumble the basketball
out of bounds.
In spite of Johnson's memorable final bucket , it
would be the play of big man Jonathan Arledje , who
led all scorers with a game high 19pts , of which
twelve came in the second half that would catapult
KIMA to a height beyond the Mustangs capability last
night. Arledje scored 7 straight points in a crucial
second half stretch before missing four straight
free throws in the final two minutes.
Dematha 58 Towson 47 - In a very
sloppy game of basketball , the defending league
champion Dematha Stags would upend a scrappy Towson
team.
For a while , however rising senior guard Daishon
Knight kept his Towson team closing turning in one
of the better performances of the entire summer.
Knight knocked down six 3pt shots , most of which
were from NBA range and finished with a game high
27pts. It is likely the 6'1" guard will Prep after
his senior year , but make no mistake about it ,
Knight is one to keep an eye on.
With Dematha holding a slim 45-40 lead with 3
minutes to play , a tip in from sophomore James
Robinson (9pts) and a slam dunk from junior David
Naves(7pts) sealed the deal as the Stags pulled away
and scored 13 of the games final 15 points. Victor
Oladipo was the most solid Stag with 12pts in the
win.
