The Rock Summer League All Star Games

Co - MVP's Markel Starks & Jamal Olasewere
Video: Highlights Of The Rock Summer League All Star Games

The Rock Summer League has been home to our area's top basketball players all summer long. Despite having a boatload of talent playing out of town with camps etc. , there obviously still was enough to put on a show in the midst of over twenty division I college coaches.

In the first game the Division I All Stars White defeated the Division I All Stars Green 69-61. Killiam Azah of Laurel HS class of 2009 showed of his high flying ability taking home game MVP honors , and throwing down a monstrous jam which earned him Capitol Hoops Dunk Of The Week. Azah was relentless on the press coming up with 3 steals all of which lead to easy scores on route to a game high 16pts.

Colin Beatty of Duval HS chipped in with 11pts and Sed Baker of Oxon Hill added 10pts in the win. Julius Fambro of Long Reach HS put in some work scoring 13pts for the losing All Stars Green.

Dunk Of The Week
The Division II All Star Game turned out to be a shootout which was pleasing to the fans and spectators who packed the house at High Point High School last night. In a game that had 9 lead changes the Division II All Stars (White) led by Markel Starks (Georgetown Prep) and Jamal Olasewere (Springbrook) came out victorious 97-88. Starks and Olasewere who later shared game MVP honors together led their team back from 10pts down at half time. At times Starks showed off his flashy ball handling skills and seemed to blow past anyone who got in his way , hooking up with Olasewere on a flashy fast break dish that really got the crowd excited. Markel Starks finished with a game high 22pts and Jamal Olasewere 21pts in the win.

Tim Snyder (15pts) of St. Johns (All Stars Green) caught fire hitting five three point field goals , four in less than a two minute span in the first half. All were contested shots , with defenders flying from all directions as Snyder cashed in on his most valuable asset , his ability to shoot the ball. Teammate Derrick Thomas  scored  20pts in the loss.

The Rock Summer League Playoffs start Friday July 11, 2008 , admission if $4.
