PONY October Student Athlete Of The Month

Wayne Sparrow Highlights In The Game Of The Summer

Wayne Sparrow 6'3" SG 2010
October's Student Athlete of the Month presented by www.pony.com , goes to a much deserving young man in Wayne Sparrow of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore , MD. Wayne of the junior class , is a classic example of what success on the hardwood and in the classroom is all about.

Sparrow has a 3.7pga and has scored a 1300 on the SAT in his sophomore year , not to mention that he still has two more shots this year at improving his already phenomenal score. The classroom star always leaves room for improvement and is a quality that Sparrow strives for. Wayne is currently the Vice President of his school's Junior class in which he is ranked third academically. The National Honor Society has also recognized this Baltimore native as one if it's active members , a prestigious honor amongst high school students.

Wayne does not shy away from competition on the hardwood , nor a challenge academically who's favorite subject is Pre-Calculus . " I want to become the CEO of my own business one day " added Sparrow , who understands the work required to achieve his dream. The future 2010 graduate wants to major in Business Management once in College.

Athletically however , Wayne just maybe the best long range shooter in our area. While covering the Rock Summer League at High Point HS , St. Frances and Good Counsel of Wheaton , MD squared off in what we later declared as the "game of the summer". Sparrow came up big hitting 5-6 from 3pt range and finishing with a game high 30pts.

In the 2007-2008 season in which St. Frances graduated Maryland's all-time leader in scoring , Sean Mosley (Maryland University) , Sparrow was named to the Baltimore Catholic League All Tournament Team. Wayne's hard work has earned him interest from Richmond , Clemson , James Madison and Amerist of which the college interest is surely not complete. Wayne will compete next summer with the brand new Baltimore Assault AAU traveling team coached by Mark Karcher and Nick Myles and looks forward to the upcoming season in the BCL.
