| Isaiah Philmore 6'8" WF 2009 |
Isaiah Philmore, a 6'7 swing forward, will stay local next year. John Carroll's leading returning scorer will play next year at nearby Towson University for Coach Pat Kennedy.
A star for the Patriots since he arrived at the Bel Air campus, Philmore had numerous Big East, ACC, A-10, Conference USA and other offers. However, the lure of staying near his Baltimore-area home and having the opportunity to compete from day one at a high level was too much for him to resist.
"I am pleased Isaiah has made a decision before the start of our basketball season," Patriot head coach Tony Martin said. "Now he can focus on having a strong year in the classroom and on the court."
Philmore has led the Patriots in scoring in each of his two varsity seasons at John Carroll, including an 18.3ppg average as a junior. He currently sits at 3rd on the school's all time scoring list, with a chance to top the list by the end of his senior season. Despite just two seasons of statistics to draw from, Philmore is near the top in a number of the school's categories, including rebounding (1st), free throws made (1st), blocked shots (1st), two-point field goals (3rd), and steals (11th).
Last season, during his junior campaign, Philmore was named both First Team All-Metro and First-Team All-MIAA "A" Conference. A three-star recruit on the Rivals.com recruiting network, Philmore was also named Harford County Player of the Year for 2007-08. In his two years at John Carroll, the Patriots have won 48 games, including a 20-12 record last season, their first in the MIAA "A" Conference, the highest level of competition in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
The Towson Tigers compete in the Colonial Athletic Assocation. Last season, they finished 13-18 overall (7-11 CAA). Philmore expects to play a major role when he arrives on campus for the 2009-10 season.
The John Carroll Patriots now have three Division I full-scholarship commitments in the Class of 2009, as Philmore joins guards Raphael Jordan and Erick Smith (both pledged to Bryant University earlier this fall).
The Patriots open their season at non-league opponent Glenelg Country School on November 24th, 2008 at 6:00p.
