Montrose Christian lost in overtime to Oak Hill Academy (VA) last night by a score of 74-62 taking home second place honors in Hawaii. Oak Hill's Lamont Jones torched the Mustangs going for an incredible 40 points as two of the Top 10 high school teams in the nation squared off miles away from home. Mouphtaou Yarou scored a team high 23 points to lead Montrose Christian (8-1) in the loss.

Josh Selby's 24 points were enough to put the Stags of Dematha (8-1) ahead of the Whitney young Dolphins 73-66 in the fifth place consolation game.  

Fairfax who lost to Montrose in the semifinals took on the Leflore Rattlers for 3rd place bragging rights. Despite 19 points from Demarcus Cousins , the Leflore Rattlers lost in OT to the Fairfax Lions. Duplicate 15 point efforts for Solomon Hill and Gerald Watkins led Fairfax in the win.  

 

December 21, 2008 Iolani Update 

  

The Montrose Christian Mustangs defeated a very tough Fairfax Lions (CA) team last night in Iolani , Hawaii by a final score of 45-38. The Fairfax Lions led by superstar prospect Renardo Sidney , a top 10 recruit from the class of 2009 pulled away from the Putnam City Pirates Saturday morning 46-29 in the quarterfinals before losing to Montrose.    

Fairfax (CA) and Montrose were tied at 19 going into half-time but the Mustangs went on a 16-5 run in the 3rd quarter pulling away and setting up a much anticipated matchup with Oak Hill Academy this Monday for the championship. Mouphtaou Yarou led Montrose with 12 points and Terrence Ross added 11 points in the win.

Dematha Catholic High School (7-1) rebounded tonight beating the host Iolani High School 73-51 in the consolation bracket , Naji Hibbert led all scorers with 21pts. The win though came after losing a tough one to the LaFlore Ratlers , who's 34 points from senior Demarcus Cousins eliminated the Stags in the quarterfinals 70-58.  

Oak Hill Acadmey squeaked by Leflore HS 68-66 last night setting up one of the most highly anicipated matchup in all of High School Hoops Monday evening , when the Montrose Mustangs take on the Oak Hill Red Devils for the Nike Iolani Classic Championship.
