Terrell Vinson WPC Elite 6'8" WF
                WPC Elite Wins Championship!

The most highly recruited player in our area Terrell Vinson and the WPC Elite were in action this weekend and surely did anything less than disappoint. Terrell scored a game high 16 points and grabbed 8 boards in a game against Hoop Booth AAU in which Elite lead the entire way on route to a 52 - 32 mercy ruled championship win. Vinson showed why many believe he is the best players in the DC Metro Area scoring inside , outside and off the dribble. In the semis Terrell Vinson also led all scorers with 25 points. With Isaiah Armwood out because of an ankle injury Antoine Meyers picked up the slack scoring 14 points on a couple of long range 3 pointers. Meyers is a 6'4" Combo Guard from the class of 2009 and is getting plenty of mid major interest. You can check out the video highlights from WPC Elite courtesy of capitolhoops.com below.

Stephen Stepka DC Assault Blue 6'6" W/PF
DC Assault 17's lose Championship Despite A Big Effort From Stepka

The DC Assault Blue 17's who won last weekend's Charlie Weber Hoop Fest were upset by the kids from Waterloo AAU 57-44 despite 16 points and 7 rebounds from Steve Stepka of W.T. Woodson High in VA. It looked like Assault who won an overtime thriller against Boo Williams Summer League just ran out of gas in this one. They were out rebounded and out hustled in the championship to Waterloo. This weekend was very big though for one Stephen Stepka a 6'6" WF/PF in the class of 2009 , who scored 24 points on (4-6 3pt.) against Carolina Fire in the semifinals , and hit the game winning shot against Boo Williams Summer League in OT of the quarterfinals. Stepka is a very fundamental player who gets the job done.

John Manning Hoop Magic 6'10" C
Big Man John Manning 6'10" Rising Star

There is no question who the big 6'10" freshman from Chantilly H.S. in VA is because his name is John Manning of the Hoop Magic 15's. This kid is incredibly coordinated for his height and age and is going to be a name you hear about for years to come. We got a chance to the see Hoop Magic 15's lose in the semifinals against the Maryland Bulls 45-47 in a game that got away from them. Manning finished with 19pts , 11rebs and 10 blocks. He was all over the court , on the offensive side and the defensive side as well. I was very impressed at how well he ran the floor , but more importantly his free throw shooting in which he went 6-7 from the stripe. This kid is long , can shoot from 10-15 feet and is a presence in the paint defensively. His weakness at this time would have to be his strength which will come if he works hard enough. The Class of 2011 has a very solid Center in Manning.
                                                                           Final Thoughts Day Two

CapitolHoops.Com would like to thank Mr. Weber & Mr. Bowie for running a great event year after year and for all of their help this weekend. I would also like to thank the Washington Shock organization for all of their help as well. The tournament was loaded with talented kids from all over the United States. Michael Phillips from the DC Assault 17's played very big this weekend helping them past BWSL in the semifinals. He is a 6'7" PF from Fredericksburg VA who is drawing some mid major schools but no favorites at this time. Antoine Meyers from WPC Elite is a tough combo guard who will be a force to be reckoned with next season. Georgetown had a couple of their players and formers at the event as well including Jeff Green (Seattle Supersonics) , Roy Hibbert Jr. and Patick Ewing Jr who came to check out the action. If you haven't seen the Dunk of the Week from Chauncey Gilliam MD South Kings AAU class of 2008 it is a must see. We had a lot of fun this weekend and look forward to our next event at the DC Assault Take Your Best Shot Tournament May 9-11 at the Hoop Magic in Chantilly ,Virginia.

Rodney Glasgow 5'8" PG Class Of 2010
        Charlie Weber Invitational Day One:

In our first game early this morning at Gallaudet University we got a chance to see a true point guard in Rodney Glasgow. The 5'8" PG from Washington Shock AAU (Good Counsel H.S.) immediately caught our eye scoring seven consecutive points early in the first half on a couple of floaters and a long range three. As a freshman at Good Counsel Rodney's minutes were very limited but it is anticipated that Glasgow will get a lot more looks next season with the Falcons. As the Washington Shock 16's rolled over Fushion Ruback 44-19 , the game was stopped with a couple minutes left as the mercy rule was put into play. Rodney finished with 13 points 8 assists and 4 steals , but we were most impressed at his ability to get his team involved. Glasgow is a very humble kid with potential and on the court already a floor leader. The Shock 16's won both of their games today.

Chauncey Gilliam 6'4" SG Class of 2008

Chauncey Gilliam a 6'4" SG / Unsigned Senior was without a doubt one of the most athletic players in the Charlie Weber Invitational hands down. With his 44 inch vertical leap , he is a human highlight machine in the making. We watched Chauncey and the Maryland South Kings 17's face off against Team Flight , the game in which Gilliam made our Dunk Of The Week when he drove baseline and rose above his defender for the monster jam. Check out his other slam . We caught up with Chauncey after the game who says that he has not signed yet , but his top choices are JMU . GA Tech , and a handful of A-10 schools including St. Bonaventure's. There is no leading school right now at this time Gilliam said , but I'll be sure to let you all know when I make my decision. Maryland South Kings AAU won both of their pool games today both at Georgetown University.
