Maurice Sutton is headed to Villanova

Today at 3pm , the #1 Center in our area from the Class of 2008 Maurice Sutton chose the University of Villanova in Philadelphia , PA , as the college to continue his education and play basketball.

Sutton won the Maryland 3A 2008 State Championship as a senior at Largo H.S. and averaged 18 points , 12 rebounds and 8 blocks. The Largo Lions in Upper Marlboro , MD went 23-4 in in the 2007-2008 season. Maurice was later selected to 1st Team All-Metro by Washingtonpost.com , and was also 1st team with capitolhoops.com as well.

The decision came just two days after teammate Kelvin Pollard Jr. signed his national letter if intent to play basketball with Barton College  in Wilson , NC.

By choosing to suit up for the Wildcats of Villanova , Sutton follows a trio of our area's top players in the last few years including Dwayne Anderson , Dante Cunningham and Scottie Reynolds. But Villanova wont stop with Sutton , a local source has reported that the Wildcats are aggressively recruiting Dante Taylor of NCA , Isaiah Armwood and Terrell Vinson of Montrose , and Talib Zanna of McNamara. It looks as if Jay Wright has found his favorite recruiting area here in the DC area , and that was something that Made Sutton comfortable in his decision to commit. It is still uncertain whether or not , Maurice will red-shirt next season to bulk up on his 6'11" 210lb slender frame.

Villanova under coach Jay Wright last season went 9-9 in the Big East and had an overall record of 20-12 in 2007-2008 , and lost in the NCAA tournament to the National Champion Kansas Jayhawks. Congratulations to Big Maurice Sutton the 6'11" center from Largo HS , we wish you much success in the very deep Big East Conference next season.
